Jackson Professional Firefighters Charities

These are some of the charities that Jackson Professional Firefighters Local 2280 contribute to.

9-11 Fund

The worst tragedy in the history of the fire service occurred on September 11, 2001. As we watched our brothers and sisters respond to the World Trade Center, noone could imagine the fate that was upon them. As the towers crumbled, so did the lives and dreams of our brothers and sisters who were murdered. Immediately, every firefighter across this great nation felt the urgency to help their fallen comrades. Donation sites were set up at several Jackson Township businesses and members of Jackson Firefighters Local 2280 hit the streets. We responded by raising and donating $36,426 for the families of the fallen firefighters.

We would like to thank all of you who showed overwhelming support to the members of FDNY. Your donations, well wishes, and prayers have helped all of us begin to heal from this tragic blow to our national brotherhood.

JPFF Gazebo at Jackson Park

Jackson North Park is home to a gazebo that was built by the Jackson Firefighters Local 2280. The Gazebo was built in 1993 by members of the Local. It is the perfect spot for rest once you have conquered the walking path, watched a ball game, or simply want to enjoy nature. Special thanks to Firefighter Tom Ricker (retired) and Battalion Chief Tim Swonger for the design and man hours of dedication needed to complete the project. Also, many thanks to several Jackson Township businesses that provided materials for the gazebo.

A marker in the park at the Gazebo marks its dedication.

and donated to the Aluminum Cans for Burned Children Program (ACBC). The cans so generously donated by the firefighters and the residents of Jackson Township mean so much to a child trying to heal from burns. Monthly, the firefighters of Local 2280 donate their time to travel to each aluminum can drop-off location in Jackson Township, the firehouses! The cans are then delivered to the Jackson Township Recycling Center, where the cans are weighed. A check is prepared and the money goes directly to the Akron Children’s Burn Unit in Akron, Ohio. The money generated by collecting the aluminum cans assists in buying many garments, therapy devices, and wound-healing aids that are not covered by insurance.

We are proud to be part of this special program. Thanks to all of the residents of Jackson Township and surrounding communities who have donated their recyclable aluminum cans to this wonderful purpose. We encourage those who haven’t participated to begin to do so for these beautiful children that need a helping hand. We have met with them first hand and see what a positive impact this program makes on their healing and their lives.

Many of you are aware of the annual Jerry Lewis Labor Day MDA Telethon. The “Fill the Boot” Campaign is a subsidiary fundraising campaign that firefighters across the country support to fund research to find a cure for the dreaded disease muscular dystrophy. The International Association of Firefighters is very close to Jerry Lewis, and has donated millions of dollars toward the common goal of curing muscular dystrophy. Jackson Township Firefighters Local 2280 is proud to be part of this campaign, holding 50/50′s at our annual Firefighting Seminar and campaigning during community events. Since the inception of Jackson Professional Firefighters Local 2280, nearly $14,000 has been raised and donated to battle muscular dystrophy.

Firefighters across this great nation will remain ever vigilant to continue the fight against muscular dystrophy.
